Speedway Shelter vs. VEVOR vs. The Bike Shield vs. Bike Capsule: Portable Motorcycle Garages Compared

Nov 3, 2026 · 6 min read · By Joshua Mezman, owner

A VEVOR shelter costs about a third of what ours does. We’ll say that up front, because if you search “portable motorcycle garage” you’ll find it, and you’ll find The Bike Shield and the Bike Capsule too. This page puts our Sport, Touring and Deluxe next to those with the numbers each maker or seller publishes, so you can pick the one that fits your bike and your yard.

Quick answer: If price and weight matter most, VEVOR and The Bike Shield cost less and weigh less. If you want powered, filtered airflow with no frame at all, the Bike Capsule does that. If you want a heavy-duty steel frame that bolts down, with anchor bolts in the box, a 10-year frame warranty and a size wide enough for a trike or two bikes, that’s what we sell.

Our side, in short

  • Who wrote this: Joshua Mezman, who owns Speedway Shelters. We sell one of the four, so we're not neutral.
  • What we know first-hand: our own shelters, in customers' yards, for years. The numbers for the other three come from their own listings, not from our tests.
  • Inside width: Sport 43", Touring 54", Deluxe 78" (trikes or two bikes).
  • In the box: anchor bolts (6, 6 or 8). Setup takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Backing: 10-year frame warranty for the original owner, 1 year on the whole shelter, 31-day returns, and a replacement cover for every size.

Rival figures come from each maker’s page or the retailer listing named under Sources, checked November 2, 2026. Prices move, so treat theirs as “about.” Speedway prices are our current prices. Where a page doesn’t say, we wrote “not stated” instead of guessing.

Where the others beat us

Price. The small VEVOR lists at about $158 and The Bike Shield Standard at about $359 (its own site showed it out of stock when we checked on Nov 2). Our Sport is $429.95. If the budget is tight and your winters are mild, that gap is real money.

Weight and travel. VEVOR’s frame folds into a carry bag, and its package weighs 39 lb. Our Touring weighs 75 lb. Ours comes apart and you can take it when you move, but we wouldn’t call it a camping tent.

Airflow. Both Bike Capsules run two fans through charcoal filters. If condensation is your main fight and you have an outlet nearby, that’s a feature we don’t have. Our vents are passive. In a damp spot, set a no-power moisture absorber inside.

Where a Speedway Shelter fits better

You want steel that stays put. Our frame is heavy-duty powder-coated steel, and the anchor bolts come in the box. VEVOR’s listing says bolts aren’t included, and The Bike Shield’s page doesn’t say. The Bike Capsule has no frame and ties down with D-rings.

You ride a trike, a Spyder, or two bikes. The Deluxe measures 140 x 80 x 80 inches outside. The widest rival here, the Powersports Capsule, lists 66 inches wide. Trikes, Can-Am Spyders and two sport or touring bikes side by side go in the Deluxe. Golf carts can fit too, but send us the cart’s length, width and height first.

You ride a full-dress bagger. The Touring is 138 x 56 x 79 inches outside, built for full-dress baggers and touring bikes. The small VEVOR lists bikes up to 103 inches long.

You care who backs it. The frame has a 10-year warranty for the original owner, plus 1 year on the whole shelter. We’re a small family business in Soquel, California, and we’ve sold these for more than 18 years. Email us and the family answers.

What our shelters look like after years outside

We can't show you a VEVOR or a Bike Shield after five winters, because we don't sell them. We can show you ours. These photos came from customers.

Two Speedway Shelters under fresh snow in a residential neighborhood in winter
Barbra and her husband bought a Deluxe Trike Shelter for their Can-Am, then a second shelter for their Indian Scout. Five years on, they use both year-round.

This Road Glide rider has used his Deluxe for six years. In winter he closes it up and tunes the bike inside, so it's ready in spring.
Speedway Shelter half-buried in a deep snowdrift
A customer's shelter in a drift. Brushing off heavy snow keeps the cover in top shape.

“Over 30 inches of snow was dumped on us! … It was pretty stressful during the storm but it held up great!”

Maryellen G., Plainville, MA, Deluxe Trike Shelter for her Can-Am Spyder, February 2026

Cover life: in full sun, a cover on its own lasts about 3 to 4 years. A Double Duty UV cover on top makes it last longer. When it wears out, you buy a new cover for your model, not a new shelter.

What the motorcycle press found

  • Motorcycle.com tested one in February 2023 and called it “the next best thing to having a garage.” Speedway provided the review units.
  • Hot Bike tested one as a winter option for riders without a garage. After months of heat and rain, they reported the bike stayed clean, dry and running well.
  • John from RoadReality bought a shelter for his Road Glide to replace a trailer and filmed the whole install. He later joined our affiliate program.

More customer photos are on our customer stories page, and setup and long-term videos are on our videos page.

What none of them do

No portable shelter is a building. None of these is airtight, and none will stop a falling tree. Anchor whatever you buy, check inside before you close it up, and in deep snow, clear the roof. A cover can still be enough if you ride most days and park for a night or two.

Portable motorcycle garage FAQ

Which portable motorcycle garage is cheapest?

Of the ones compared here, the small VEVOR shelter, at about $158 on VEVOR’s site (checked Nov 2, 2026). It fits bikes up to 103 inches long.

Which one has the strongest frame?

We can only compare what’s published. Speedway lists a heavy-duty powder-coated steel frame. VEVOR lists 0.9-inch galvanized poles and The Bike Shield lists galvanized square pipes, but neither states a gauge. The Bike Capsule has no frame.

Which one fits a trike or a Can-Am Spyder?

The Speedway Deluxe, at 80 inches wide outside, is built for trikes and Spyders. Check our size chart or ask us about your bike.

Do any of them come with anchor bolts?

Speedway includes them (6 with the Sport and Touring, 8 with the Deluxe). VEVOR’s listing says bolts aren’t included. The Bike Shield’s page doesn’t say. The Bike Capsule includes D-rings.

Is a Bike Capsule better than a frame shelter?

It’s different. The Capsule has no frame and runs filtered fans off a wall outlet. A frame shelter like ours stands on its own, bolts down and needs no power. Pick the one that matches where you park.
