Parking one bike for the winter? This is the size to grab. The 10 oz bottle treats 25 gallons of gas, which covers a typical motorcycle tank several times over, and STA-BIL Storage keeps that fuel fresh for up to 24 months.
The math: 1 oz treats 2.5 gallons. A 5-gallon tank takes 2 oz. A 3.5-gallon sportbike tank takes a little under 1.5 oz.
Do it in this order
- Add the stabilizer to fresh gas. Old gas that’s already turning won’t come back.
- Fill the tank to about 95% so there’s less air space for condensation.
- Run the engine 5 minutes so treated fuel reaches the carb or injectors.
It works in all gasoline, ethanol blends up to E-85 and non-ethanol, and in 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines. No alcohol. STA-BIL says it also removes water to prevent corrosion and keeps gum and varnish from building up. Made in the USA.
This exact bottle is in our Winter Storage Kit, along with a UV protectant, a moisture absorber and a mildew remover. The rest of the off-season prep is in our motorcycle storage guide.
Common Questions
Is a 10 oz bottle of STA-BIL enough for one motorcycle?
Yes. 10 oz treats 25 gallons at 1 oz per 2.5 gallons. A 5-gallon tank needs 2 oz, so one bottle covers several storage seasons for a single bike.
When should I add fuel stabilizer, before or after filling up?
STA-BIL says to use it only with fresh fuel. Add it, fill the tank to about 95%, then run the engine 5 minutes so treated gas gets into the fuel system.
How long can a motorcycle sit with STA-BIL in the tank?
STA-BIL Storage keeps fuel fresh for up to 24 months. They recommend it for anything gasoline-powered that will sit 30 days or longer.
