How Tall a Bike Fits in the Touring Shelter

The Touring Shelter's clamshell roof peaks at 77.75" about 61" back from the front, then slopes down toward the rear as the ribs fan out. That's plenty of headroom for most full windshields, but the number that matters is the clearance at the spot where your bike's tallest part will sit.

How to check your fit:

  1. Measure your bike's length from the front tire to the rear fender or tour pack. It needs to be under 136".
  2. Measure the width across the saddlebags or mirrors, whichever is wider. It needs to be under 54".
  3. Measure the height to the top of the windshield and compare it with the clearance at that spot in the chart.
  4. Still close? Tape out a 136" × 54" rectangle on the ground and roll your bike in.

Touring clearance chart

  • 77.75" at the peak, about 61" from the front
  • 71.36" at the front frame post, about 24" from the front
  • 71.1" at 88.51" from the front
  • 67.3" at 94.78" from the front
  • 63.33" at 101.21" from the front
  • 49.2" at 113.94" from the front
  • 40.15" at 120.58" from the front

All heights are measured inside the shelter from the ground up. See every dimension on the full-size drawing.

What Fits in a Touring Motorcycle Shelter?

The Touring is built for full-dress touring motorcycles, including the largest touring Harleys and Gold Wings, with room left over for riding gear. Owners use it for:

  • Harley-Davidson baggers and touring bikes with hard saddlebags and a full fairing or windshield
  • Honda Gold Wings and other full-dress tourers
  • Cruisers with saddlebags or a tall windshield
  • ATVs
  • Ride-on lawn mowers
  • Firewood, tools, and outdoor gear

Will a Harley Bagger or Gold Wing Fit?

Yes. Full-dress touring bikes are what the Touring Shelter was designed around, including the largest touring Harleys and Gold Wings. To be sure, measure three things and compare them with the shelter:

  • Length: front tire to the rear fender or tour pack, under 136"
  • Width: across the saddlebags or mirrors, whichever is wider, under 54"
  • Height: to the top of the windshield, checked against the clearance chart above

Touring vs. Deluxe: When to Size Up

The Deluxe is nearly the same length and height as the Touring, but it's 24" wider inside (78" vs. 54"). Size up to the Deluxe if you're storing:

  • A trike or Can-Am Spyder
  • Two motorcycles side by side
  • A small golf cart, UTV, or snowmobile

For a single touring bike, the Touring is the better fit: it's narrower, lighter (75 lb vs. 82 lb), and takes up less of your driveway. Riding something smaller without bags? The Sport Shelter is more compact. Compare all three sizes.

Storing a Touring Bike Outside in Winter

Touring bikes are heavy, expensive, and full of electronics, so a little prep before winter goes a long way:

  • Clean it thoroughly, including any road salt, and let it dry before you close the shelter.
  • Top off the tank with fuel stabilizer and run the engine to circulate it through the fuel system.
  • Plug in a battery tender. Alarms, clocks, and other accessories slowly drain a battery over a long layup.
  • Inflate the tires to spec and park on rubber flooring to keep them off cold, damp ground.
  • Brush off heavy snow. The steel frame supports 150+ lbs of snow, but clearing deep buildup keeps the cover in top shape.
  • Open the vented windows on mild, humid days so condensation can escape.
